- Beware of Fake GTA 6 Demo Sites
What You Need to Know
Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) is one of the most anticipated video games of the year, if not the decade. Even though the game won’t officially launch until November, it hasn’t stopped dozens of fake sites popping up that promise to showcase “demos” and “first looks” at the game.
What kid wouldn’t want a free demo? Did we mention the download comes loaded with malware?
The game’s content ought to be enough to make watchful parents raise an eyebrow. However, since your kids will likely be exposed to the game anyway, better to arm them with the knowledge of how to avoid falling for a scam, infecting a phone or computer with malware, or even racking up mysterious charges on your credit card.
What You Should Do
- The sites looks legitimate. They are copying Rockstar Games’ (the actual company behind the game) web page and promotional materials. By utilizing the real images, videos, and graphics from the game, they are easy to mistake as the real deal.
- Don’t trust any downloads. The game is not out yet. None of these sites can have it before it’s even launched anyway. For reference, the game actually launches on November 19, 2026.
- Make sure they are visiting the actual website. The simplest thing to check is the URL of the web page they are viewing. If it’s not https://www.rockstargames.com, they’re in the wrong place.
- There is no “demo”. Rockstar has not announced any demos, which should be an immediate red flag if another site is promising one.
Not sure you’re doing enough to protect your child against digital dangers?
