- The “Roblox Reward” Trap
What You Need to Know
Scammers are using AI-generated influencers on TikTok and YouTube Shorts to promote “Free Robux” or “V-Buck” generators. When kids click, they are asked to “verify they aren’t a bot” by uploading a photo of a parent’s ID or entering a “verification code” sent to a parent’s phone.
These are particularly nasty because they appear legitimate, but the scammers ultimately want to target your bank account or even your phone’s SIM card to perform a SIM swap.
What You Should Do
- Don’t click any links. Any “reward” that requires “Parental Verification” via a 6-digit SMS code is actually a scammer.
- Block & report the sender as spam. This will help protect you from future messages like this as your phone will learn what they look like.
- Set up dark web alerts. If your child accidentally enters your info into a fake generator, it will alert you the moment that data is tested on the dark web.
Not sure you’re doing enough to protect your child against digital dangers?
