What You Need to Know

Schools are currently a “honeypot” for AI-driven social engineering. Scammers are scraping district websites to find the names of teachers and principals, then using AI to mimic their writing style perfectly. Parents are receiving emails about “Urgent Behavioral Reports” or “Missing Field Trip Fees” that link to fake portals. Once you “log in,” the scammers have your credentials for everything from school accounts to your personal email.

What You Should Do

  • The Red Flag: Check the link before you click. Official school portals will usually end in .edu or .gov. If the URL looks like school-portal-secure.com, it’s a trap.
  • Never Click Without Showing an Adult: Educate your kids to never click links in school-related messages without showing you first.
  • Use Safe Browsing: A service or feature like this will automatically blocks these malicious “lookalike” domains before you can even land on the page.
