What You Need to Know

Extended car warranty scams are increasing, often starting with illegal robocalls or official-looking postcards warning that your vehicle’s warranty is about to expire. Scammers frequently know details about your car—such as the make, model, and year—to make the pitch sound legitimate. In reality, these offers are not from your car manufacturer or dealer and typically sell overpriced, misleading, or completely worthless contracts. Many of these scams rely on urgency and fear, pressuring people to act immediately. Notably, all commercial robocalls are illegal, and calls made to numbers on the Do Not Call Registry are almost always scams.

What You Should Do

Protect yourself by ignoring unsolicited warranty offers, especially those delivered via robocalls or postcards. Never feel pressured to make an immediate decision or share personal or payment information over the phone. If you have questions about your vehicle’s warranty, contact your local dealership or manufacturer directly using verified contact information. Register your phone number on the National Do Not Call Registry and remember: legitimate companies will not sell warranties through illegal robocalls or demand instant payment.
