What You Need to Know

Medicare open enrollment this year starts tomorrow (October 15th) and goes all the way to December 7th. Because open enrollment is the only time most people can change their plans, adjust coverage, and explore options, it becomes a hotbed for scammers trying to swoop in. They hope to not only make a quick buck, but pick up any personal information you’re willing to give them.

Scammers will utilize fake landing pages, forms, and other misleading login portals in order to capture log in credentials or even personal information. They may also reach out via fake emails, phone calls, or text messages, and are likely using AI for most or all of these processes.

What You Should Do

  • Never give out personal information to unsolicited calls, texts, or emails.
  • Only visit the official Medicate website (www.medicare.gov) to enroll or change plans.
  • Don’t trust any Medicare pages you get from 3rd party links or sources.
  • Call Medicare directly instead of taking unsolicited calls from them. Scammers can spoof phone numbers, so the only way to ensure you’re safe is dialing out yourself: (1-800-MEDICARE).
